Building listening & talking capacity

There are a number of interventions, each with different benefits

All approaches give the middle ear muscles, a “work-out” while listening,
helping them regain their natural tone, and improve hearing.

As sounds are more accurately processed, reading, writing, and spelling improve. The ability to manage in noisy places and in groups can also improve.  socialisation -  talking with and understanding others.

Improvements with auditory stimulation

Johansen Individualised Auditory Stimulation (JIAS):

  • trains the ears to hear different frequencies more accurately improveing speech and spelling

  • balances ear dominance - should be slightly right ear dominant, necessary for phonemic awareness (pre reading skill),  for accurate listening adn getting the sequence right

  • needs only 15 minutes a day of listening

  • is individualised precisely for each person's needs so accelerates improvement

  • has specific measures showing change in in each ear as well as what is happening behaviourally
