What really causes reading problems?
If a child has ongoing difficulties with reading there can be one or more of 5 underlying causes:
- opportunity
- hearing and vision
- processing - Spoken Language/Visual Perception
- integration of the "reading" brain
- "overloaded" brain functioning
The first two can be easily dealt with by established approaches and parents come to us usually after this....
- Opportunity – remediation, tutoring, extra reading to them will make the difference without further intervention.
- Hearing and vision – if providing additional opportunity hasn’t worked, then have an assessment with an optometrist and a audiologist to eliminate physical causes which can be dealt with by using glasses and hearing aids.
When you have given your child appropriate opportunities, they have no hearing or visual issues, and they still have reading/learning problems, then contact us.
We deal with those underlying neurological causes of reading difficulties.
